Research Magazines Analysis (Cover & TOC)

Dogster

Masthead

The title font is serif and all the letters are low-case which is a signature font for Dogster, and something I want to do too. The color changes depending on the background picture. The title is always located on the top of the magazine, centered above the main picture. The slogan is usually on top of the last three letters and the date of issue as well as the website, is located somewhere underneath the title.

Coverlines
The cover page includes 5 cover lines. The one with the largest font is on top with subtitles under it to offer some background on what the cover line is about. There is three more on the right that are different colors, different shapes and different sizes. The most important key words seems to be larger   than the rest and the color doesn't seem to have a specific pattern. To the left there is one cover line with two pictures of dogs on the right bottom corner. The colors are mainly for aesthetics and change throughout the cover. Unlike the title, the cover line font is sans serif. The language used is informal to relate more to the audience. The point they are trying to make is simply state tips on how to help out your dog and there is no need to embellish the language.

Animal Tales
Masthead

The font is serif and it has two different styles. The word animal is blue and tales is yellow. The colors change depending on the issue. The bone shape where the title is inserted is their signature as well as the paw in the "I." I have not yet decided what I want to title my magazine but if there are any letters where the paw can fit into, I want to include it.

TOC
The table of contents uses serif fonts as the subheadings and keeps a consistent theme throughout this pages. This magazine is very colorful and you can tell by looking at the pictures I inserted. The featured articles are highlighted by adding a picture for each one and adding the page number on where they are found in a noticeable sized font. The 7 departments are Features, Animal Facts, Picture Perfect, Get Crafty, Story we *insert heart*, Quizzes, Fun Stuff.

Bark

Masthead

The title is serif and it is all in capital letters with the exception of the "k," this serves to add a sense of formality to the cover page. In very small writing, the word "The" is written which makes up "The Bark" that is the title of the magazine; however, it is popularly known as Bark. The slogan is under the B and the name of the magazine under the K. The issue date is on top of the k.

TOC

The table of contents has a large picture and the feature titles in order and structured in an organized way which adds on to the formality of the magazine. There are 8 featured articles and a brief sentence of what it will be about as well as credit to the author.

This page is actually next to one of the pages of contents rather than having the table of contents side to side. This is advertising to encourage the audience to buy another one of Bark's magazines.

This is the other part of the table of contents which shows the rest of the articles. In this page, there is also only one smaller picture.
It is divided in features, "It's a Dog's Life," "Dog Patch" and poetry.
Their social media is found on the bottom of the page.
27 articles

This magazine is the most formal out of the three. It all depends on the target audience. "The Bark" magazine had a 89% of people who attended university, while "Dogster" had a 52% and "Animal Tales" targets 6-12 year olds who have not even attended high school. Overall, the aesthetic of the magazine has to do with the target audience and the message you are trying to give out.

Thank you for tuning in, next time, we will get into the process of sketching out my and analyzing my own magazine. Deuces.
